Beachy Head –first landfall for many migrants

What ever the season Eastbourne is ideally placed to explore a rich variety of birdwatching sites such as Pevensey & Pett Levels for wintering wildfowl and raptors; the migration watch point of Beachy Head ( almost on our doorstep - a must during Spring and Autumn migration ); the RSPB Pulborough Brooks reserve or Ashdown Forest for heathland specials such as Dartford Warbler, Woodlark and Nightjar.

Our birdwatching breaks are normally three days from Friday lunchime to Sunday afternoon . Our price is £175 per person and fully inclusive.

Mid-week breaks can be arranged, as well as day trips for guests who wish to combine birdwatching with other interests whilst staying with us in Eastbourne.

Please contact Richard to discuss your requirements .

A typical itinerary would be:

Day 1:
Arrive lunchtime.

After settling into your rooms we have a buffet lunch and get to know each other a bit before an afternoon trip to one of the local sites. This will be flexible depending on what’s about and the weather conditions.

Return to the Cherry Tree in time for our evening meal which will be followed by coffee in the lounge to discuss the following days birdwatching and discover any particular target species people have.

Day 2:
We may start the day with an early morning walk around Whitbread Hollow , Beachy Head returning in time for a hearty breakfast to set us up for a full day in the field.

After breakfast we may explore Beachy Head further if there has been a fall of migrants before heading either west to the RSPB Pulborough Brooks for the day or east towards Pett Level and Rye Harbour. A mid-day stop for picnic lunch will give us time to reflect on the morning’s birds and an opportunity to review the planned afternoon birding.

Return to The Cherry Tree late afternoon for evening meal.

Depending on the time of your you are visiting there may be the opportunity after dinner for us to go looking for Nightjars or owls.

Day 3:
Following breakfast we will head out for a full morning’s birdwatching perhaps in Ashdown Forest in search of some of our special heathland birds or across Pevensey Levels .

We will return to The Cherry Tree early afternoon for a light snack and a final log call prior to departure.
